Wild camping is banned throughout the park — every night of a trek has to be booked before you arrive.

The rule that catches people out

Wild camping isn't allowed anywhere in Torres del Paine. Every night of a W or an O has to be at a booked campsite or refugio, and rangers can ask for your reservation voucher on the trail and refuse to let you continue into the next sector without one. "We'll find somewhere when we get there" is not a plan here.

Why it's a race and not just admin

Two companies run the sites, and each releases its season on its own booking system. For the October 2026–April 2027 season, booking typically opened between April and June, with Las Torres usually releasing first and Vertice after, and availability released sector by sector rather than all at once. Neither company commits to a fixed release date in advance, and it isn't the same date every year — so the only reliable approach is to watch both sites from around April for the season you want. Popular sites for December–February go quickly once they open.

What that means for your planning

Book the trek first, then everything else. A ‘W’ needs nights with both companies, in a fixed order, on consecutive dates — if one site is full on your night, the whole sequence shifts. Confirm every night before you book flights or Puerto Natales hotels, not the other way round.

The shortcut, if the timing doesn't work for you

Organized packages hold their own allocation of beds, so a package is the realistic route in if you're planning late or don't want to juggle two booking systems. You pay for the convenience, and in exchange someone else wins the race.
